Seabrook mourns police officer Jim Cawley
Apr 20, 2018SEABROOK�� The caravan of police officers left Seabrook at 9 a.m. Thursday on a sad journey to Massachusetts General Hospital to bring home for the last time their colleague and friend, Jim Cawley.�This is a very emotional day for me,� said Selectwoman Ella Brown, her voice trembling. �All I can picture in my mind is Jimmy sitting in his cruiser with that small stub of a cigar in his mouth. We were blessed to have him working for us.�Cawley was 60. According to information posted on social media by the Seabrook Police Department, he died around noon on Wednesday. His death was the result of a number of complications that occurred following a medical procedure last September.He was hired by Seabrook police in 1985, and spent his life in service to his country and his town. Cawley had more than 20 years of service in the Air Force, including time as a K-9 officer and being activated for Operation Desert Storm. He had more than 25 years of active duty as a police officer in Seabrook, after which he returned as a full-time dispatcher.When Cawley died, he was still on the roster as a part-time officer to be called when needed. Cawley left full-time service as a dispatcher in November 2017.Although Cawley�s condition was known, his death hit the town hard.�We�re all very sad here,� said Town Hall secretary Amy Davis. �Jimmy wasn�t just a good cop, he was a good guy.�Brown concurred, adding Jim Cawley was one of two brothers � the other being retired officer Michael Cawley � who also served in Seabrook.�Jimmy was good with people and with children,� Brown said. �He was a real people person.
